“I went to the police station because they are massacring me. If someone asked me today if I would attempt suicide, I would say that I thought about it several times. It was a difficult time, but it is passing,” she stated.

Maria Helena made a public appeal urging anyone who receives the video to delete it and refrain from sharing it further. She emphasized that this type of attack has become increasingly common against women, particularly those in public positions.

Challenges for Women in Public Life

The councilwoman believes the leak may have been motivated by her status as a public figure. Despite the violation of her privacy, she remains resolute, stating, “I continue to hold my head high because this is my purpose. I believe that this happened because I am a public figure. It is not easy to have your image publicized, and this is complicated for women and any human being.”

Legal Action and Police Investigation

The case is being handled by Civil Police officer Breno Houly Palmeira, who has underscored the severity of the crime. Those responsible for sharing the intimate content without consent could face imprisonment ranging from 1 to 5 years.

“The crimes in this case are against honor, defamation, insult, and unauthorized dissemination of sexual images without consent. Since it is a crime involving the Internet, finding all the perpetrators becomes a complex task,” explained Palmeira.

He also highlighted the role of the public in stopping the spread of such material. “The important thing is that the population does not disclose or spread it. Anyone who receives videos of this type and continues to forward them is also committing a crime,” he warned.

A Call for Responsibility

This case brings attention to the broader issue of digital harassment and the unauthorized sharing of intimate content, especially targeting women. Maria Helena’s courage in addressing the situation publicly highlights the need for stronger protections and societal awareness regarding privacy and respect for personal boundaries.
